Superstar Rajinikanth fever grips the world as Jailer 2 hits cinemas

Jailer 2, starring Rajinikanth and directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, was released in cinemas on October 15. The action film is a sequel to the 2023 movie Jailer, with Rajinikanth returning as retired jailer Tiger Muthuvel Pandian.

Sacnilk’s initial estimate put the worldwide opening-day gross at Rs. 125.25 crore, including Rs. 59.70 crore in net collections in India. Its later estimate raised the worldwide figure to Rs. 127.25 crore. The report also said the film drew about 3.75 million theatre admissions across India on its first day.

The film features Mithun Chakraborty, Vidya Balan and SJ Suryah, alongside special appearances by other actors. Ada Derana’s Tamil-language reports said the film was drawing positive reviews and strong collections in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and overseas markets.

NDTV, as cited in the report, said the ending and unresolved storylines, along with a surprise appearance by Vijay Sethupathi, had prompted speculation about a possible third instalment. The filmmakers have not announced plans for Jailer 3. Other supplied reports mention fan celebrations and praise for Rajinikanth’s work, but provide no further specific details.
