ThePapare, Ada Derana, Newswire and Hiru News report that Kieron Pollard will take charge as Mumbai Indians’ head coach before the 2027 Indian Premier League season. Ada Derana says the appointment places him in the role previously held by Mahela Jayawardene.

ThePapare reports that Jayawardene, a former Sri Lanka captain, said the previous weekend that he was leaving the head coach position, after which the franchise began looking for a replacement. ThePapare says Pollard had served as Mumbai’s batting coach before moving into the top coaching role.

ThePapare reports that this will be Pollard’s first head-coaching position in a T20 league. It says he also plays for Mumbai Indians’ sister franchises MI New York and Trinbago Knight Riders.

ThePapare reports Pollard represented Mumbai Indians over 13 IPL seasons, playing 189 matches, making 3,412 runs and taking 69 wickets. The outlet says he contributed to the franchise’s five IPL championships.
