Road blocked, bus crew attacked by motorcycle gang

Newswire reports that six people arriving on three motorcycles blocked a luxury bus near Nagas Junction in Kalutara and assaulted its driver and conductor. The incident occurred on the evening of the 27th, after the bus had travelled from Colombo to Kalutara and dropped off passengers; it was being taken to its parking location.

Newswire reports that the attack was recorded by a CCTV camera inside the bus. The conductor was injured and taken to Kalutara Nagoda Teaching Hospital, where hospital sources described his condition as somewhat serious.

Newswire reports that preliminary police inquiries indicate the incident may have followed an earlier dispute in Moratuwa, when the conductor declined to let someone board the bus while it was heading towards Kalutara. Daily Mirror reports that Kalutara North Police opened an investigation to identify those responsible. Newswire says police began investigating after a complaint and are working to identify and apprehend those involved.
