Train services between Rambukkana, Gampola suspended until further notice

Daily Mirror and Newswire report that services between Rambukkana, Peradeniya and Gampola were suspended from midnight on the 25th until further notice. Lankadeepa, Newsfirst (සිංහල), Sri Lanka Mirror, Hiru News (සිංහල) and Ada Derana (සිංහල) also report a suspension on the route, citing adverse weather or prevailing conditions.

Daily Mirror and Newswire say an active landslide near Kadigamuwa railway station, between Rambukkana and Peradeniya, led to soil washing onto the railway track. Newswire reports that emergency repair work was carried out on the 24th and 25th, but continued heavy rainfall left a high risk of further earth and soil collapses.

Newswire reports that trains will remain suspended until repairs are complete and the line is confirmed safe for operations. Sri Lanka Mirror says no specific resumption time had been announced and that the department was monitoring conditions. Newswire adds that passengers holding reserved-seat tickets for affected trains can obtain full refunds at any railway station.
